"Das Aushöhlen der Vogelknochen", a poem for a concert by Ensemble Resonanz (Germany)

Ensemble Resonanz, the champions of contemporary classical music in Hamburg, commissioned me to write a new poem for their Saisonabschluss concert, which had as its unifying theme "gravity: nach dem himmel gezogen". That concert program featured the music of Jörg Widmann, one of Germany's leading contemporary composers. My poem, "Das Aushöhlen der Vogelknochen," which addresses the concept of gravity in a multilingual and ekphrastic way, was based on the two compositions by Jörg Widmann that Ensemble Resonanz performed: "Ikarische Klage" and "Insel der Sirenen," musical pieces that, in turn, draw on poems by Baudelaire and Rilke, in addition to their clear reference to classical Greek literature and myth. My poem was translated into German by Jonis Hartmann, published in the Ensemble's concert program and read on stage at the Elbphilarmonie as part of the concert. The poem was later published on the Ensemble's concert blog. During the research on gravity that led to the writing of this poem, my cousin, Chilean physicist Diego Cohen, provided me with valuable bibliography and references, for which I am very grateful. Exultant about this collaboration, I am eternally grateful to all the members of Ensemble Resonanz, in particular Elisa Erkelenz, Tobias Rempe, Tim-Erik Winzer and the actress Nina Maleika, who magnificently read the poem with me on stage before an attentive full house. The concert and reading were covered by Verena Fischer-Zernin for the Hamburger Abendblatt.

Here is "Andarivel," the long poem that closes my book Redoble del ronroneo (Buenos Aires Poetry, 2016). As this poem starts from an epigraph by César Vallejo, I am very happy about its present publication in the Peruvian site Vallejo & Co, one of the most consulted resources for contemporary Latin American poetry. Thanks to its editor, Mario Pera, for his care and kindness.
"Andarivel" is, like the mechanism to which it refers, a back-and-forth between registers of different heights, which cancel and negotiate; it is also an appeal to the second person of the reader, inviting him to take part in the closing of the book as a ritual. This poem was translated into Greek by Άτη Σολέρτη and published, in that version, by Vakxikon.gr, an Athenian journal.

I am overjoyed to share with you this excellent video in which I read my poem "Ex-Voto" - dedicated to Béla Bartók and Isabelle Faust - in collaboration with the amazing violinists Juditha Haeberlin and Swantje Tessmann, who performed arrangements of Bartók's folk music between the stanzas of my poem. The poem is also dedicated to Isabelle Faust, whom I consider the greatest living violinist for Bartók's most intimate string repertoire: his Sonata for solo violin and his Sonatas for violin and piano. Her recordings have profoundly influenced my writing process. The subtitles of the video include the German translation of my poem by Timo Berger. The video was finely filmed and edited by Miguel Murrieta and Thomas Oswald. I am eternally grateful to all who participated. The event took place at Golem, Hamburg, on September 24, 2017. Since Golem - a legendary club and cultural center that enriched Hamburg's nightlife for seven years - has now closed, this video becomes a valuable document of that outstanding venue.

Passing through Santiago in July 2018, I had the honor of reading together with Chilean novelist and visual artist Claudia Donoso, author of Insectario amoroso, an intense book of miraculous strangeness in the panorama of contemporary Chilean literature. We both read unpublished texts. There was champagne and oysters. Eternal thanks to the great painter Natalia Babarovic and the rest of the artists of the Elena Blanco Workshop for facilitating their space for our reading, to Gregorio Papic for the video recording and to all the attendees. Here is a video with one of the poems I read then: "La madre niña", dedicated to Edy Herrera, my first other.
